Welcome to 'Seedlings Class' everybody!
In nursery, there are two teachers and we are so lucky to have lots of other ladies who help us throughout the week.
Ms Hedge teaches on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Allen teaches Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Mrs Lambert will be working with us on a Thursday morning.
Mrs Mitchell, Miss Harrison and Miss Barkley support us all in our learning.
We have lots of fun-filled activities planned, and we will also take notice of the things that you like to do so that we can do more of them.
We will keep in touch through Class Dojo and you can upload your learning into your portfolio.
We will update this page through the year to share our adventures. We are looking forward to our wonderful learning journey together!
Ms Hedge
Hello everyone,
My name is Ms Hedge and I teach in Nursery on a Monday and Tuesday. I am in school all week because I am also an Assistant Head Teacher and SENDCO. That means I look after lots of children right across school.
I have worked at Kirkby Avenue for a very long time and have taught lots of boys and girls who are now grown-ups! That makes me feel very old!
I have two grown up boys of my own too, we love football and really enjoy going to matches.
I love stories too and look forward to sharing lots of your favourites with you.
We think very carefully about learning and how to make it fun for you so you will enjoy coming to school.
See you soon and we will all have fun learning together.
Mrs Allen
Hello everybody!
My name is Mrs Allen and I am the teacher in Nursery on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
I have worked at Kirkby Avenue for a very long time, in different classes from Nursery to Year 2.
At home, I have got a little dog called Ted and a big boy who is 7 and a smaller boy who has just started Nursery - like you! He loves playdough and jigsaws - I can't wait to find out about your favourite things.
My favourite story is 'Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy'. Come and tell me about your favourite stories.
Mrs Mitchell
Hi, I’m Mrs Mitchell. I have worked at Kirkby Avenue for many years now. In my spare time I enjoy seeing my Grandchildren and going on holiday. In school I love singing songs with the children. I hope you have your best singing voices ready.
Miss Harrison
My name is Miss Harrison. I have worked in Nursery for nearly 10 years now. I have a dog called Luna who enjoys going to the beach and rolling in muddy puddles! My favourite animal is a penguin and I love anything Disney!
I can't wait to hear about what your favourite animal and Disney characters are.
We have lots of ideas for new learning and our thinking for this term will be "I wonder what happens in Summer?". We will be learning about changes in the world around us in Summer. We will be looking at life cycles and how things grow as well as lots of sport leading up to Sports Day.
We always strive to follow the children's interest so our learning may well lead us on a different journey, giving our children ownership while ensuring they reach towards their goals.
Look out further down the page for our Parent Forecast which details our aims for this term and also our home learning menu for this half term.
Watch out for updates on our learning as we go through the term.
Reading in Seedling Class
The early stages of reading with our children will be retelling stories they have heard. Children will often want stories they love to be read to them over and over again, this helps them to be able to retell the story without actually being able to read the words.
We want children to enjoy stories because this will support them in enjoying reading independently when they move to that stage of their reading journey.
Remarkable Readers!
We encourage the sharing of stories with our 'Remarkable Readers' library system. Children can borrow books to take home and share with their families with opportunity to change them twice per week. Every time you share a story together, the children earn a point and can work towards Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, however, the real prize is sharing quality time together.
