Governor Pen Portraits

Miss J Bainbridge (Staff Governor)
I have worked at Kirkby Avenue Primary School for over seven years as a class teacher. I am enthusiastic and passionate about providing our children with the best possible education so that each individual reaches their true potential. I have worked across many year groups in key stage two and am currently based in year three/four. I am thoroughly enjoying my role as Staff Governor and feel that it enables me to develop professionally in terms of the wider school. I also have the opportunity to work with other members of the governing body and school staff to ensure our pupils receive an enriching and inspiring curriculum in a safe and stimulating environment.

Mrs L Hunter (Parent Governor)
I have two children, a son who enjoyed his primary education at KAPS, and a daughter currently in KS1.
Being a parent governor gives me the opportunity to have an active part in creating great memories and giving the pupils a great chance of achieving whatever goals they set for themselves.
I have worked for Doncaster Council for 20 years, with the last 10 years being in a position of supporting vulnerable people in the community, giving me a real understanding of the different levels of need.

Mrs C Clifford (Head teacher, ex-officio)
I have been given the great privilege to lead a fantastic team of staff, governors, children and families at Kirkby Avenue Primary School. I have been a teacher for almost 30 years, having spent nearly 17 years here in Bentley. I believe passionately that all children should be given the best opportunities while at school and aspire to reach ambitious goals. I strongly believe in creating an exciting and ambitious curriculum and providing our pupils with opportunities outside of their normal experiences. The choir and music are things that I try to find the time to do at school. Outside of school, I play sax in Doncaster Concert Band.

Mrs E Waddoups (Chair of Governors)
As a foster parent to two siblings, one of which attends Kirkby Avenue Primary,
I am passionate and enthusiastic about supporting the senior leadership team to provide excellent educational, pastoral and wrap around care to the many children and their families in our area. I hope that my involvement in the governing body will help the school to provide a strong nurturing environment where all pupils no matter what their background have the opportunities they deserve to flourish in their education as well as their social and emotional wellbeing. I have been a governor for the last few years but have recently taken up the role of special educational needs governor for the school and I am now the vice chair. I have been a foster carer for the last 4 years and previously worked as an Operating Department Practitioner for the Doncaster hospital NHS trust for 20 years. My overall experience, but specifically as a foster carer has given me a wide range of knowledge around children and their families who need extra support to be able to fulfil their true potential, and I hope this will enable me to be a great parent governor and vice chair.

Mr J Hunter (Parent Governor)
Growing up in Bentley and attending KAPS myself, I am keen to support the school and help shape the lives of the pupils, including my daughter currently in year 1.
It is important to have a good relationship between parents and school to achieve the best outcomes, and I am pleased to be a part of that link.
I have been a steel worker for around 18 years now, but in my spare time I enjoy Martial Arts training, something I particularly enjoy being able to do with both of my children.

Mrs J Northwood (Vice-Chair of Governors)
I am retired Head teacher and have over 25 years experience as a School Governor and four years as a governor at Kirkby Avenue Primary School. I have a lot of experience in school finance, school expectations, performance management and an understanding of how a primary school should be run. I hope I can use these skills to effectively to support Kirkby Avenue Primary School in continuing to be the great community school it is. My passion is about helping to provide the best education for all children, giving them the best support and opportunities the school can provide.

Ms K Richards (Parent Governor)

Kathy Richards – Parent Governor
I have lived in this community all my life and have a good understanding of what it’s like to be both a child and a parent in Bentley. I feel like I am at a point in my life where I would like to give something back to the community that I love and I relish the opportunity to work with the school. I feel that my affinity with the local community makes me well placed to represent their wishes and feelings, ensuring that their voice is heard. I also believe my understanding of the school and its pupils means I will be well placed to provide the right level of  challenge and support in meetings, and I am passionate about making a difference to the lives of all our children.

Mr R Johnson (Staff Governor)
